My 24th of July Dress!
It was supposed to be my 4th of July dress, but since we left for a nearly 2-week vacation on the 5th of July, I spent the 4th doing laundry, packing and cleaning instead of watching the parade, eating barbecue and blowing things up.
I probably would have dripped barbecue sauce all over it, anyway. So it was for the best. Sour grapes!
The inspiration for this dress came from The Sew Weekly’s Make This Look:
I thought it was so adorable and I kept thinking about it until I finally broke down and dragged my kids to the fabric shop to get pick up Simplicity 2180 and some fabric. The quality of the gingham at the fabric shop I go to was not great, but I did find this lovely pattern from Robert Kaufman’s Way Out West collection that had the same color and feel I was going for.
I found this belt at Forever 21. It goes perfectly with the red patent leather shoes I already had and the earrings from Autumn Equinox.
Pockets! I love it when dresses and skirts have pockets! I want to make another one with some adjustment. in the bodice, and I think I’ll pull the hemline up above the knee next time. And my invisible zipper technique needs work. But overall, I think it is a very cute, fun summer dress.
Now somebody needs to invite me to a barbecue!
