My Mrs. Peacock
So I felt like I really needed a giant peacock feather fascinator thingy, and I have a giant bag of feathers that I inherited from another crafter’s destash. I wired together a group of feathers and then topped it off with a blue teardrop pendant I found at Hobby Lobby (side note – I am so, SO stoked that a Hobby Lobby just opened up here!). I stuck the whole shebang on a simple elastic headband, and with my new cropped hairdo, it is perfect!
The other cool thing I want to point out in this picture are those shiny wrench earrings. I wanted to have some kind of weapon component to the outfit, but I didn’t know how I could bring a real wrench or realistic knife, gun, etc. on the plane. So I found these earrings on Etsy by Fabrication Unlimited. I got mine in mirrored gold.
You guys remember my faux-y lady scarf, don’t you? I have never, ever worn it out! But since the original Mrs. Peacock had a dead animal hanging off of her, I finally have an occasion to wear it! I think that the purple-y color gives a nice transition from the neutrals to the bright blue gloves, too. It is a great ice-breaker conversation piece, too, since I won’t know a soul at this party!
And I haven’t done it yet, but I think the final touch will be to use a bit of blue nail polish on the sole of my heels to bring some of that blue down to my feet. I’ll post a pic if it turns out well.
This last picture is of me cracking up after about 50 shots of my husband telling me to throw my hip that way and suck it in this way and straighten up and move that foot an inch to the right and so an and so forth. I am glad he did, though, because I had a pot belly and double chins in the the first shots we took before all the sucking and tucking and twisting and turning. Now if I could only have him follow me around at the party and remind me to not let my arms touch my body and throw my foot out at a 45 degree angle!
