Halloween Costumes 2013! Bowser and The Gold Ninja!
The Bowser mask, spiked cuffs, and chest plate are all made with fleece. At first, Huck told me that it “looked nothing like Bowser” but once the complete costume was together, he said it was “perfect.”
My husband did an amazing job making the shell. The base is cardboard with toilet paper rolls for the shells. He used duct tape over the whole thing for color. He added yellow fleece straps to it so it can be worn like a backpack. They can be tied to adjust. I also made a stuffed, spiked tail from some t-shirt knit and it is attached to the bottom of the shell.
The Gold Ninja’s gi took a little more work than I thought it would! On our test run at the party, it kept falling open, too.I will definitely have to safety pin it shut on Halloween. I think those golden shoulder pads are a little low for him and are just heavy enough to cause the whole shirt to slowly slip down his shoulders. The main fabric is a honey gold linen that I found in the remnants bin and I had the gold material left over from the year Milo was a boxer. The green accents are grosgrain ribbon and a piece of green fleece makes his belt.
I made a stencil to add the golden dragon motif to the back of the uniform and used a good ol’ black Sharpie for the outlines. It came out great!
There was a lot of flailing around when I was trying to take pictures. Action shots, we’ll call them!
